Citizens of Aegis!

Welcome to the 8th day of this campaign! We are four days from the end of the campaign on October 4th!

Today’s first Location is the Coldharbor Docks

(Game Rules & Names subject to change)
(Game Rules & Names subject to change)

There is a creature that frequents these frigid waters that is a bit of a curse. It is slightly smaller than a man, with an enormous mouth. It preys upon the fishing grounds, devouring our catch, while the beasts themselves are somewhat poisonous to eat. We have begun an undertaking to hunt the creatures and already we are seeing fewer and fewer near the surface. Our hope is to drive the beast into extinction or at least away from our region, but time will tell what this effect will have upon the species for future generations.

-- The Diary of Iluro Alsueta, Coldharbor fishing captain of the second age

Coldharbor Docks is the first Location we’ve previewed which has multiple functions - the effect generated by the Coldharbor Docks depends on where you place your Agent when you dispatch them.

Each space on the Coldharbor Docks can accommodate one Agent. When there are no available spaces, no further Agents can be assigned to this Location. All of these effects relate in some way to manipulating the game state using coins.

The Dock Master allows a player to recover a deployed Agent from the Coldharbor Docks. A coin is generated when using the Dock Master even if an Agent is not recovered.

The Devil’s Maw is a bit bigger than “slightly smaller than a man”! Its arrival is certainly a shock to those who frequent the waterfront - all Agents at the Coldharbor Docks flee when it arrives! It has a challenging 3 Damage and generates 3 Reputation when slain.

The second Location for today is the Coldharbor Homesteads

(Game Rules & Names subject to change)
(Game Rules & Names subject to change)

Our history here hasn’t been a pretty one. Coldharbor has no jail or dungeon; exile is the fate of criminals and traitors. With the harsh space around our borders, it serves as a strong deterrent, but over time, those who survive often band together to attack caravans in the mountains and raid the homesteads. As brutal as they can be, I don’t send my men to protect the villages. Each one has their own protectors, and they’re more than enough to deal with that kind of desperate rabble. The truth is, I could use more like them at the barracks, but for them, there’s no place like home.

-- Katarina Lehtola, barracks captain

The Coldharbor Homesteads are the second Location in this expansion that features multiple effects based on where an Agent is deployed.

Players who have been asking about more “interaction” have their wish! Now you can force your opponents to give you Reputation or reduce their Defense Track values. Other options at the Coldharbor Homesteads can power (and generate) Hunts, and use Reputation to generate Coin and Reputation.

The Homestead Hero provides the mechanism to recover Agents sent to the Homesteads - and generates some Combat Strength as well.

The Exiled Raiders have a 2 Damage and reward any who defeat them with 2 Reputation.

We are featuring the Carnival of Shadows content from the Advanced Guild Packs for this Update.

A reminder of how the Guild HQ Location works: This Location is only available to its named Guild. Guild Citizens & Patricians may interact with the Location as described. Before play begins, each player chooses which side of the Guild HQ to use during the game, and replaces the stock Guild Citizens & Patricians with the updated versions.

The history of the Realm dates back centuries, perhaps even longer. And through it all are left traces, hints, secrets waiting for anyone with the patience to listen … well, read. And patience isn’t even the right word when it comes to tomes like these, but it’s all here. Coldharbor … Aegis … Black Bayou … Dunestar … they’ve all come a long way, but we’ve got longer to go. The other guilds act like all of this is a sprint, scrambling along, jockeying for position, but it isn’t; it’s a marathon. And the Carnival intends to win.

-- Teducius Varro, citizen of the Carnival of Shadows

The Shadow Barony options both partly involve using Influence in unusual ways. The first side provides a way to “piggy-back” onto the success of others, and the second side allows the player to seed their hand with potentially desirable cards.

The new Guild Citizens & Patricians for the Carnival allow some interaction with the Shadow Barony, provide a surfeit of Influence, and can generate Reputation when a player has earned a lot of Influence.

Cliffs of Coldharbor Preview: Ice Hills Mine, Border Towers & Anointed Headquarters
over 4 years ago – Mon, Sep 30, 2019 at 11:34:54 PM

Citizens of Aegis!

Starting today we’re going to be doing an expanded Daily Update which will feature two Locations from the Cliffs of Coldharbor expansion, and one of the double-sided Guild Headquarters Locations from the Advance Guild Packs which we’ve unlocked and added to the Cliffs of Coldharbor Rewards.

Today’s first Location is the Ice Hills Mine

(Game Rules & Names subject to change)
(Game Rules & Names subject to change)

I cannot speak enough about my disdain for that city … the salt air … the incessant dampness that hangs over it … and don’t get me started on the cold. I’d never sail a single ship into that harbor, were it not for that elixir. Somewhere in those mountains, frozen beneath endless layers of ice, lies a power unseen in the Realm since the days of the King. It’s what makes Coldharbor steel so strong, her crops so unique. It’s what makes life inside that frozen hell possible, and it makes every minute I spend there worth it.

-- Ignacio Montes, Fede Cartel Patrician

The Ice Hills Mine is one of the sources of the wealth of this region. Its ability generates coin as long as there is at least one Agent at the Ice Hills Mine.

When the Master Refiner is available you can either send agents to the Ice Hills Mine or retreive them and recover whatever coin they’ve earned during their time at the mine.

The Cursed Beggar can be bought off with sufficient coin. Hunting it generates 2 points of Reputation.

The second Location for today is the Border Towers

(Game Rules & Names subject to change)
(Game Rules & Names subject to change)

This city will be a beacon in the snow, pushing back the cold with a fire that can come only from the spirit and determination born from Humanity’s collective heart. We have claimed this land and its treasure for the Realm, and from it, we will carve the miraculous from the mountains and build a harbor to extend our reach to parts unknown. Let this city be a testament, a promise, that Humanity will not be driven back or torn down by either the forces of nature, or the enemies of the King. Let them see our light and know … Coldharbor will stand forever!

-- Harek Grimvaldsson, first viceroy of Coldharbor, the second age

The Border Towers are a bulwark against the Chill, and using them provides some unusual opportunities.

First, you can dispatch trained Agents to the Border Towers even if you don’t have the corresponding Contact available. The Location’s ability gives you this option, once per turn.

Second, when attacked by a Threat, you can manipulate the nature of the attack. The Border Tower’s second ability allows you to manipulate Threat Cubes on the Border Towers, and recover your assigned Agents as well. For each cube, and each Agent that you removed from the Border Towers you reduce the overall Damage of the Threat.

The Border Guard explains how Threat Cubes get to the Border Towers in the first place. You can use this Contact to send a trained Agent to the Border Towers, and/or you can remove a Threat Cube from the Tower (or a Threat Zone on a player’s board!) and put it on the Border Towers.

This manipulation of the danger comes with a cost - the Ice Troll is a fearsome minion of the Chill, embodying 4 Damage. Defeating it provides 3 Reputation and if you are strong enough, you may be able to take down an Ice Troll in the same turn you successfully Hunt another threat first!

We are featuring the Anointed content from the Advanced Guild Packs for this Update.

As the war rages on, the spirit of Humanity burns ever brighter. Our people endure with noble hearts, seeking goodness from all for the benefit of all. Our engineers have bore strength from the land itself to stave off the darkness. And our soldiers fight with a ferocity unmatched by anything our enemy can conjure. Why I have even heard how the primitive Humans of the Abiding Wild have conjured the spirit of the beasts in battle against the Blight. With our victory assured, the Anointed look to the future, and if you’ll just give me a moment, I took the liberty of jotting down a few starting points.

-- Otekah Jones, citizen of the Anointed

The Blessed Sanctum options involve defending the City against attacks from the Tower. The first option makes Threats less powerful and allows you to recover points on the Defense Track. The second allows you to manipulate the Threat Cubes in the Tower (the rules text here is a little rough). It also allows you to use effects on the Street less expensively than the default.

The new Guild Citizens & Patricians for the Anointed allow some interaction with the Blessed Sanctum, generate Combat Strength, increase card draw and generate Goodwill and/or Influence and Goodwill.

Stretch Goal Update!
over 4 years ago – Mon, Sep 30, 2019 at 11:34:48 PM

Citizens of Aegis!

Welcome to the 7th day of this campaign! We are beginning the final five days of this campaign heading towards the end on Friday the 4th.

As you know the pace of pledges during the mid portion of the campaign has been fairly slow. Our Kickstarter Dashboard shows us an increasing number of backers clicking the “Remind Me” button so we know that we’ll have a good finish to this campaign. Our projections based on the number of pledges we have now, plus what we expect to see in the final few days, combined with our expectations for upgrades and add-ons in the Pledge Manager make us feel confident that we’ll meet or exceed the $400k goal for this campaign before we close & lock the pledge manager.

To remove any concerns that backers may have about the Stretch Goal we’re going to remove the target pledge amount and unlock the goal TODAY! Every set of Cliffs of Coldharbor delivered to backers and late pledges for this campaign will include the Advanced Guild Packs regardless of the final total of pledges for this campaign.

We appreciate the support of all the backers so far and we recognize the concern that some potential backers might have regarding the value of their Cliffs of Coldharbor pledge and we think it’s best if we remove any uncertainty so we can all focus on having a great final week of the campaign.

You can help us make this campaign a success! Sharing the link to the campaign on your Facebook and Twitter social media feeds will help us reach the widest possible audience. We greatly appreciate your assistance!

Cliffs of Coldharbor Preview: Break Point Bluffs
over 4 years ago – Sun, Sep 29, 2019 at 10:30:22 PM

Citizens of Aegis!

Welcome to the 6th day of this campaign! On weekend days our staff continues to monitor the Comments channel on Kickstarter for any urgent matters but we typically wait until Monday to answer all the routine questions which arise on Saturday and Sunday.

Today’s Update features Break Point Bluffs.

(Game Rules & Names subject to change)
(Game Rules & Names subject to change)

Coldharbor is a fortress built within another fortress. With the sea at its front and the mountains at its back, they are well-fortified against attacks. But no wall is impenetrable, natural or otherwise. There are secret passages, hidden to the eyes of the towers, and it is there where we will strike. We have agents within the city already, moving in the shadows, sowing dissent and turning others to your cause. It is only a matter of time until the treasure of Coldharbor belongs to us; and if we have any advantage to press, it’s patience.

-- Ofecilia, Emissary of the King

Break Point Bluffs is a smuggler’s paradise! Adding Smugglers to the game costs you spots on the Defense track. They may not be direct agents of the Chill but they aren’t much appreciated by the good citizens of Coldharbor either.

Each round the Break Point Bluffs accumulates coin. Money pours through the smuggler’s networks regardless of the number of active Smugglers; but the Guilds attract their money always.

The Smuggler lets you take the funds that have accumulated on Break Point Bluffs. Of course, you only get half of the available coinage; acting last in a Round may mean that there’s nothing left to take!

The Ferryman reveals that the protestations of the Smugglers are less than truthful; the Ferryman IS an agent of the Chill and contributes to the coin accumulating in Break Point Bluffs. Destroying them provides a modest reward in Reputation.

Cliffs of Coldharbor Preview: The Mud District
over 4 years ago – Sun, Sep 29, 2019 at 12:54:11 AM

Citizens of Aegis!

Welcome to the 5th day of this campaign! On weekend days our staff continues to monitor the Comments channel on Kickstarter for any urgent matters but we typically wait until Monday to answer all the routine questions which arise on Saturday and Sunday.

Today’s Update features the Mud District.

(Game Rules & Names subject to change)
(Game Rules & Names subject to change)

Coldharbor is home to tremendous wealth, and many in Aegis and beyond have acquired their fortunes from the work done in the Harbor. But wherever I have seen great wealth, great poverty is not far away. The Mud District is where the city keeps its poorer laborers. The large numbers of people crammed into such a small space make it slightly warmer than other parts of the city, which is why it stays so wet there. It doesn’t get a great deal of traffic, due to the threatening stories of dangers in the dark alleys. But sometimes I think the locals prefer it that way.

-- Corrina Laity, adventurer

The Mud District Location has no special ability; it is one of those Locations that exists to serve up its Contact/Threat card.

The Gang Boss runs a crew that helps you generate Battle Strength.

It’s a good thing the Gang Boss knows this territory. When the Slum Prowler is lurking, the connected crews in the Mud District inflict penalties on the Slum Prowlers they’ve marked for death! Picking up Influence and Reputation for a victory is a great reward for keeping the downtrodden safe from the Chill.
